Growing Flowers and Growing a Community

Welcome to Janniebird Farm. Rooted in Soil, Grown for Connection.

Here in the Gunnison Valley, we grow seasonal specialty cut flowers, herbs, and edible blooms with care, intention, and deep respect for the soil beneath our feet. Our farm is about more than flowers — it’s about connection. To place. To people. To the rhythms of the seasons.

We practice regenerative, organic farming methods that work with nature to build living soil — rich in microbes, alive with beneficial insects, and strengthened by organic matter and thoughtful rotation. This living system captures carbon, holds water, and creates the conditions for our flowers to thrive.

When you visit the farm or bring home our blooms, you’re stepping into a story of stewardship, beauty, and resilience — one rooted in the belief that caring for the soil is how we care for each other.

Field to Vase

Since 2019, we’ve been sharing the beauty of locally grown, seasonal flowers — from our fields straight to your vase. What started as a dream to connect people through flowers has grown into a thriving farm and a passionate community of flower lovers.

This year, we’re excited to expand at the IBAR Ranch with a new perennial cut flower field — a space designed to welcome gatherings, celebrations, and shared experiences. We hope you’ll join us on this journey and bring the joy of local flowers into your home — and your heart.

What’s in a Name?

We get asked this a lot. Simply stated, I’m Annie, my husband’s nickname is Jaybird.

Jaybird + Annie = Janniebird Farm

Our Story

Annie

“Did you always want to grow flowers?” This is a question I get asked frequently. The honest truth? No. My journey to becoming a full-time flower farmer has taken a winding path that includes careers as a waitress, athletic trainer at CU, and most recently a medical sales rep.

Along the way I’ve discovered an inner voice that has been flourishing inside me since I was a little pony-tailed girl, growing up in the country. I grew up in Southern Illinois and used to play amongst the blooming clover, tying flowers together to make crowns and long flower chains. I was fortunate enough to live on 5 rolling acres where my parents planted a huge vegetable garden and my mom grew the brightest yellow and orange marigolds.

My siblings and I would play for hours among the marigolds, catching garter snakes, baby frogs, and daddy long leg spiders. At Grandma Nelly’s house I would often bask in the warm sun making up elaborate stories about the two decorative ceramic frogs that sat on a bench, underneath a garden trellis in a bed of flowers. I always admired the beautiful African violets that Grandma Nelly grew and I hope that she is somewhere out there admiring my flowers, rooting me on and saying, “It’s about time”.

She’s right. It is time to lean in and follow my authentic calling. I am starting a new chapter in Gunnison, CO in Zone 4, and have jumped in with both boots to continue my flower farming journey. I hope to bring you and your family the joy and reverence that flowers bring me. I look forward to meeting you on the farm, at a local market, wedding venue, or maybe even at your doorstep.

Zaiden

What a flower lover this kid has turned out to be! Zaiden is my top flower inspector. When I bring in buckets of flowers, he stops to look at everyone, choosing his favorites for the week. He loves color and texture, so strawflower and dahlias are homeruns in his book. As a rough and tumble boy, he’s not embarrassed to throw on a flower crown or help me cut zinnias in the field.

Jason

Jason keeps me on my toes and makes sure my head isn’t only full of beautiful, flowery dreams, but also a long term plan. He is the Chief Financial and Operating Officer that will help bring our dreams to fruition. He asks the hard questions, monitors the bank account, and makes sure we succeed as a small business. He is also really good at shoveling compost, laying irrigation, and hauling anything heavy. His dream is to ride his mountain bike through fields of wildflowers.

Xavier

The most soft spoken baby and toddler, XJ has grown into a helper of all things. He loves to smell the flowers and learn the names of all the different varieties. He will volunteer to carry buckets bigger than him and take out all my scraps to the compost. He is a lover of all bugs, crickets and frogs in the garden. His favorite flowers are dahlias, sunflowers and corn cockle.
